Everything about SipSolutions

What is SIP Trunking and How Does it Work?

SIP solutions work just like any traditional phone line. Although, instead of bundles of cable linked to the copper network, your existing Phone System can deliver calls using your internet connection.

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a type of VoIP phone call service. There are many types of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) connections, but SIP is a feature-rich solution that provides superior scalability, quickly provisioned, cost-effective, flexible and extremely reliable. Perfect for not only phone calls, but also video conferencing, and any other form of media communications.

Every staff member will still have a direct phone number, but without the need to pay a line rental on every phone. Your business only pays for the number of lines you need to use simultaneously, and those lines are shared between all extensions.

Minimises Your Cost

Call rates are lower and SIP Trunking can eliminate landline rental fees by allowing you to get rid of lines and channels you do not need. In many cases, a business can slash their phone bill by at least one-third, and up to 50%!

Scalability

From small businesses to large enterprises, SIP trunks can easily be scaled to suit your needs. Because SIP trunks are virtual rather than physical, you can easily and inexpensively add or reduce the number of channels. Connect now and then scale up as required.

Low Switching Cost

Make use of your existing investment in hardware.

Flexibility

Being virtual enables Sip trunk to be more flexible scaling your business, and reallocating capacity and call routing when needed.

Call Quality

SIP trunks have a digital location instead of the physical one. It uses dynamic processing features proving a higher quality of VoIP with the convenience of a traditional line.

Reliable

With Automatic Failover, never miss a call in the event your device is unavailable. Your business retains full control over your phone system through 24/7 Self-service client portal. Add and move phone extensions, track your usage, or change configuration settings anytime as your needs change.

Requirements

1. SIP Compatible Phone System

You will need an IP enabled phone system, or if you have an older system that uses analogue data, you will have to use an Analogue Adapter.

If you’re not sure if your phone system will work, please contact us and we’d be happy to check for you.

2. Suitable Internet Connection

You will also need a suitable internet connection, with enough bandwidth to support the number of concurrent calls you would like to make. ADSL2 and NBN connections are suitable for most businesses.

In some cases, using this same data connection for your VoIP or SIP calls will be fine. However, if the connection is not reliable enough, the first thing that will be impacted will be your phone calls.

Our business consultants will also help you determine how much bandwidth is needed for your service.

If you’re not sure if your current internet connection will work with Sip, please contact us and we’d be happy to check for you.

3. Select a Plan – Sip License

Some systems have a SIP License already, but if you have an older system a license needs to be arranged for your business. Then, the last step is to select a plan that best suits your business needs.

The transition is simple. Our voice engineers set up the required number of lines (or ‘SIP Trunks’) over a dedicated voice internet service and then oversee the transfer (porting) of your business phone numbers.

Then you are good to start calling.
